Glassware is made from a hard amorphous substance without crystals that is made by melting silica, limestone, and sodium carbonate at a high temperature of about 2000 degree F until they fuse, Then cool the incandescent liquid carefully so that crystals cannot form.

Glassware containers for food, beverages, cosmetics and medicines have been used from a long time. Human-made glass is thought to be the oldest manufactured substance in the world. Glassware is made up of simple, natural ingredients: silica sand, soda ash and limestone. The compositions of these materials put in making glassware are as follows

• Silica sand 60%
• Soda ash 20%
• Limestone 15%
• Alumina silicate 4%
• Salt cake 0.9%
• Other minor ingredients 0.1%

In the glassware manufacturing process all the raw materials are stored in silos (cylindrical towers). Then these materials are transformed through a gravity feed system to a weigher and mixer, where these materials are blended with cullet (recycled glass) to ensure homogeneous melting. After this the mixtures is passed on to a batch storage bin from where it is dropped into a feeder to the melting furnace, this furnace is usually capable of producing 90 – 360 tonnes of glass per day.

Finally the melted glassware is refined and this, the refined glass is channeled to fore heathers and forming machines from where it is formed to various shapes and sizes and even the color is added to it. Once the glassware is shaped into a container, it is passed through the process of annealing, where it is hardened to be used, and also removes all the unwanted stress areas in the glassware. Then finally it is inspected and thus ready for any kind of use.

Glassware can be made into many different and attractive colors, from the most common color to the rarest colors. For the glassware to be transparent and clear, a very small amount or no color is added. Similarly,

1. Amber or Brown color glassware is produced by adding iron sulphate,
2. Various shades of green is brought by adding iron-chromite
3. Light blue glassware is produced by adding cobalt, etc.
